OM 1-2 PSG Review / Ratings

Another great Classique. Another game where OM pushes Ligue 1’s richest team to the brink. And another game where OM falls to the efficiency of PSG. This game had spectacle, counters, open play, and everything else you would want in a Classique. However, OM will yet again rue wasted chances that saw their good performance earn them no points. This will now be 5 months without a victory without a victory at le Vélodrome.  Review and Ratings to follow.

Massive crowd for OMNewYork at Smithfield Hall NYC. Les Marseillais came out in full force, singing, yelling, and urging the team forward.

DEFENSE

Mandanda had a rough game, making a few saves but being outdone on the two PSG goals. The first goal, he really couldn’t have reached the cross, and the second one, him sliding would have risked a penalty (especially with PSG). Dja Djédjé had an awful start, followed by playing well. He failed to cover Maxwell on the first goal, and almost allowed another one 5 minutes later when Di Maria crept behind him. Nkoulou and Rolando both had strong games, though Rolando will be ruing getting beaten on both goals. Still, a strong game with tackles and good passing from the two center backs. Manquillo had a great game, playing excellent defense and getting more involved on offense. He offered a few passes and a couple great runs.

MIDFIELD

Isla had a great game, playing well offensively and intercepting a lot of passes. Diarra was an absolute monster in the midfield, keeping possession and being tenacious in tackles. Cabella had a great game, scoring an awesome goal and getting involved all around. He offered a great pass to Nkoudou at the end of the game which almost tied the game at 2-2.

ATTACK

Barrada had a rough game, failing to insert himself in the game and not offering enough from an attacking player. His miss from 12 yards out was unforgivable. Nkoudou had a good game, creating some space and getting the ball often. However, his miss in the final minutes of the game was a sign of his youth. Alessandrini came in and offered some runs, and should start next week. Batshauyi was basically invisible the whole game. People say that he doesn’t get good service, but I don’t see him making many runs or demanding the ball. I feel he needs to do more to put himself in positions to get the ball.

If OM can play like this every game, they won’t lose another game all season. However, this team is showing the troubling sign of playing well in big games, and struggling against small teams. Let us hope they can turn it around. Merci, et allez l’OM !
